fast fashion

October 10, 2007

Unless you become a famous fashion designer the pay is limited. The average starting pay is around thirty-five thousand dollars. The average pay goes up every five years or so. By you tenth year your average pay is around seventy-five thousand. In my opinion this is not bad as long as you are getting paid to do what you love. The average hours of a fashion designer ranges up to fifty-five hours a week. This is not including the outside work a designer might endure. A lot of designers have the choice of picking whether or not they want to work at home or in a business. It is helpful to have an environment that is creative and comfortable. A designer working environment is one of the most important things when creating a piece of fashion.
Believe it or not fashion is hard labor. It is a career that is all hands on. The designer usually starts off by brainstorming ideas. Then the designer sketches out ideas. Once something sticks most designers then sketch out what the final piece should look like. The designer has to choose where he or she wants the buttons, zippers, and what the pattern will look like. The designer also has to think about how much fabric is involved. Once all the steps are followed, all that is left is sewing the piece together. Practical knowledge will bring your beautiful designs together. Challenges are always thrown a designers way. A designer must be able to cram as well. Most designers do this when there is a deadline to meet or a show to prepare. Designers have a lot of stress set upon them. One of my goals is to bring this to people’s attention. I would like for people to know the things I found out about the fashion world. I think people should know that fashion designers do not always live the glamorous life. That is one reason why I chose to take on this project. I like to write up to at least three to four times a week for about thirty minutes. I feel I might not be able to share all my views on fashion, but I hope to reach a few people. I have had a lot of influences in this career. The whole reason I love fashion today is because of Vogue and shows like Project Runway. Even when I was younger I would watch more mature shows on television just to see how they would dress. My mother and grandmother also have been a big influence on me. They have always dressed with a sense of style and personality. With this blog I hope that it will help me years from now when I design for a living. If fashion does not work as planned then I can fall back on my blogs and hopefully peruse something with that. I may never become fully famous but I know I have passion for this career.
